An MPPT Inductor is a power magnetic component used in the DC-DC converter stage of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) systems, particularly in photovoltaic (PV) power applications. It stores and releases energy during switching operation while helping regulate current, reduce ripple, and support stable power conversion.
By working together with the switching devices and control circuit, the inductor helps manage energy transfer in buck, boost, and buck-boost converter topologies. Its inductance, current rating, saturation characteristics, and DC resistance can be designed according to the converter topology and specific MPPT operating requirements.

Working Principle
An MPPT Inductor stores energy in its magnetic field when current flows through its winding during the switching cycle of a DC-DC converter. When the switching state changes, the stored magnetic energy is released to the circuit, helping maintain controlled current flow and continuous energy transfer.
The inductor also opposes rapid changes in current, which helps reduce current ripple and smooth the current waveform. Its inductive reactance and energy storage capability are determined by the inductance, operating frequency, and current level of the converter.
In an MPPT system, the controller adjusts the converter duty cycle according to the operating condition of the photovoltaic source. The inductor works within the power stage to support the resulting energy transfer, allowing the converter to regulate the PV operating point while delivering power to the downstream load or battery.
